ABITIBI8INNI

A more than a thousand year human presence

Us, today’s Apitipi8inik, we can probably regard Anicinapek of the Archaic period as our remote ancestors. Before the time of contact, there is little known information about the occupancy of the Abitibi area. In the Lake Abitibi area, archaeological excavations have therefore permitted to believe that the occupancy dates back in very ancient times. During Archaic period (6000 – 2500 B.P.), Anicinapek groups had already occupied and exploited the actual Abitibi territory, in order take the essential resources for their livelihood. These populations study shows only a momentary portrait of their way of life that now belongs to our cultural world.
